Sometimes I get high on life or love and I disappear into some kind of emotional Xanadu for a while. I love these seasons. Where everything is possible. And anything can happen. And then, for whatever reason, it’s gone. It’s hard to come down from that high place. I’m still working on it.

This new demo is a sad one. But it’s beautiful. (I promise to write at least one happy song this year…)

Here is February’s song with random footage taken at and around High Place Cottage in Tasmania.

sunrise over maria island in the distance. i’ve spent so many hours staring out at this view thinking about love and loss and people that have come and gone over the years, all tangled up in this mysterious life.

    S O L I T U D E • Postcard from Whare Kohu • Misty Morning (demo) • January • New Zealand • 🇳🇿

This has been my home for January 2024. Kohu Cottage is nestled in along the Whanganui River in New Zealand’s North Island. There is no phone connection or internet, just the surrounding peace and quiet and the opportunity to completely disconnect from the outside world.

Kohu means mist in Māori. Kohu was also the name of the original owner, you can glimpse a photo of her above the fireplace in the video.

I spent the days reading books, playing guitar, walking along the river road and soaking up the hum of nature around me. This video is my little postcard from Kohu Cottage and the soundtrack is the song I wrote while I stayed here. It is just a little demo version for now but someday it will be recorded properly and released everywhere.

If you ever want to stay in this cute little Cottage in New Zealand, you can email Lois for bookings - kohu.cottage@xtra.co.nz. Lois is one of the most beautiful souls I ever met and she has always welcomed me with open arms.

i have spent the last weeks hiding away in this little cottage in new zealand. no phone connection. no wifi. just me and the sheep and cows and horses and deer and goats and birds and bees and trees and the mighty whanganui river.

i have written a new song and i really like it. i have also recorded a little demo version and made a little video with random footage from this month of solitude. it’s an incredible (and very nerve-racking) feeling to have done all of this on my own and have no idea if it’s any good or not but to try and keep trusting myself and share it with the world before the end of january.

i’m putting the finishing touches on the song and the video today and i’ll upload it and share it before midnight on the thirty-first (new zealand time).
